New Years Resolutions
New Year’s resolutions are
a bit like babies: They’re fun to make
but extremely difficult to maintain.
Losing
Weight:
Plan for bumps in the road. Use a food journal
to keep track of what you eat and have a support
system in place.
Essential
oils can be a natural
aid for weight loss and maintenance. They can
have very positive impact on weight loss efforts
when combined with healthy diet and lifestyle.
Some Essential
oils can really help with
weight loss by helping to melt the fat and by
helping the body to carry less toxins.
Several Essential
oils can suppress
cravings, increase metabolism, reduce fluid
retention and helps alleviate emotional stress
and stress eating.
Grapefruit
is one of the best essential oils for weight
loss due to the d-limonene found in grapefruit.
It helps in releasing fatty acids into
bloodstream where the body breaks them down and
uses it for energy. A study conducted on the
protective effects of d-limonene in the animal’s
shows that it helps reduce body weight by
reducing lipid peroxidation (oxidative damage)
and lowering cholesterol.
Peppermint
essential oil
has unique weight loss benefits. It is great for
reducing appetite and helps suppress cravings.
We feel full because of a special mechanism in
our brain and peppermint works on that part of
the brain which triggers the feeling of fullness
when you eat. It is found to be more effective
than any other scent in creating serotonin in
the brain that is linked with cravings for
sweets. A study on the effects of peppermint
scent on appetite control confirms that
participants inhaling peppermint essential oil
were less likely to feel hungry and had fewer
cravings than the ones who didn’t inhale
peppermint essential oil.
Lemon
essential oil
is great for addressing intestinal parasites
that are often a secret cause of weight gain. It
helps in weight loss by dealing with various
digestive ailments, balancing your metabolism
and increasing energy levels. It helps the body
to carry less toxins which it stores in the fat
cells for no good reason.
The Smell & Taste Treatment and Research
Institute of Chicago found that inhaling lemon
and peppermintessential oil
scent is more natural and effective way to
control appetite to help with weight loss.
Ginger
Essential Oil
works because it also reduces sugar cravings
and helps reduce inflammation in the body.
It’s so important that if you’re going to lose
weight, that you’re also reducing
inflammation, and supporting digestion
and absorption of nutrients.
Bergamot
essential oil
this oil is extracted from Italian citrus fruits
and it is perfect for those who eat when they
are stressed. Sedative properties of bergamot
essential oil make
it perfect for fighting with stress related
weight gain and controlling stress triggered
eating. It can be more effective if you pair it
with lavender
essential oil. Bergamot
essential oilis
very effective in weight control because it
contains extremely large amounts of the
polyphenols (that are also found in green tea).
This polyphenols content is great for fat
oxidation (halt production of blood fat),
increasing metabolism and preventing the
absorption of cholesterol. Bergamot inhibits an
enzyme that is linked to the blood sugar levels,
being more active when sugar is high which
promotes the decomposition of sugar and fats.
Cinnamon
essential oil is
found to promote a feeling of fullness after
meals. It works more as a weight gain preventer
and less of a weight loss plan. It works to
enhance the effect of all other weight loss
essential oils. It helps in breaking down sugar
for absorption into the body as energy, so as a
result the body would have less fatty acids to
store. It is also found to be very effective
against candida which influences weight gain.
Cinnamon helps increase blood circulation,
stimulates the immune system, improves gut
health and irritable bowel syndrome and
metabolism which is why it may be helpful in
weight loss. Cinnamon is also known for its
anti-inflammatory uses and it stimulates the
immune system, and even increases libido.
Sandalwood
essential oil
works great for stress eating. It helps
overcoming negative feelings and behavior so
that you no longer feel tempted to eat more to
deal with stress.
Quit Smoking:
Fear that you’ve failed too many times to try
again? Talk to any ex-smoker, and you’ll see
that multiple attempts are often the path to
success.
Think of all the money you will save.
In a study with
20 people who were daily users of nicotine
products (cigarettes, snuff, or chewing tobacco)
were asked to try aromatherapy instead. They
were divided into two separate groups and given
an essential oil (either black
pepper or angelica)
and given instructions to place one drop of
essential oil on a tissue and inhale this for
two minutes (roughly the amount of time it takes
to smoke a cigarette) whenever they felt the
urge to use tobacco. The test subjects reported
back with their experiences and they found that
both essential oils effectively curbed cravings,
but they provoked different responses. It
was reported that the intensity of their
cravings were reduced dramatically after
inhaling black pepper essential oil than
they did with angelica essential oil, but
inhaling angelica essential oil helped to
delay their next nicotine hit for longer than
the pepper.Combined, they effectively helped
to curb the cravings for longer. No
Smoke BlendA special blend
to help stop smoking.
Make your own Blend using these
essential oils: Blending
these essential oils, as stated above,
gives you a power house of help.
You could use this blend topically, diluted
in a roll-on bottle, but this blend is most
effective using inhalation rather than
topical application.
Dr. Christopher makes a formula to support
quitting Smoking, Smoke
Out. A synergistic blend of popular
herbs for smokers who are trying to quit.
Helps support your bodies desire to quit
smoking. Ingredients: Wild Oats,
Lobelia, Rose Hips, Cayenne in a base of pure
grain alcohol.
Cut the Stress:
A little pressure now and again won’t kill us;
in fact, short bouts of stress give us an energy
boost. But if stress is chronic, it can increase
your risk of—or worsen—insomnia, depression,
obesity, heart disease, and more.
Stress is an inevitable part of life.
Relaxation, sleep, socializing, and taking
vacations are all things we tell ourselves we
deserve but don’t allow ourselves to have.
Lavender
essential oilis calming, earthy, lightly sweet and
freshly floral scent, it is widely beloved for
its relaxing and balancing effects on both the
physical and emotional bodies.
Frankincense
essential oil
is comforting warm, exotic aroma, Frankincense's
most common use is stress relief.
Rose essential
oilprovides
relief from both stress and depression, it
stimulates the mind and helps promote a sense of
well-being. It has the highest frequency among
essential oils at 320 MHz.
Roman
Chamomile
is is superior in addressing mental anxiety. It
has wonderful calming and relaxing properties
and can help to dispel anger and release old
emotions.
German
Chamomile:Can
dispel anger, clear the mind and bring stability
to one’s emotions.
Cedarwood
essential oil
is known for its calming properties, cedarwood
has been found in clinical tests to be of
benefit to children suffering ADD and ADHD.
Native Americans used cedarwood to communicate
with spirit. Cedarwood stimulates the
limbic region of the brain (centre of emotions)
and the pineal gland, which releases melatonin
(melatonin plays an important role in
establishing sleep cycles). Can be diffused or
applied topically. Best place to apply it is to
the stem of the brain (where the neck joins the
head).
Geranium
is an essential oil that helps relieve tension,
stress and release negative memories (it works
with the liver chakra to release toxins from the
body). It also helps to open the mind to new
ideas.
Marjoram
essential oil:
In folklore, Marjoram was known as the “herb of
happiness” to the ancient Romans and the “joy of
the mountains” to the Greeks.
Volunteer:
We tend to think our own bliss relies on
bettering ourselves, but our happiness also
increases when we help others. And guess
what? Happiness is good for your health. A 2010
study found that people with positive emotions
were about 20% less likely than their gloomier
peers to have a heart attack or develop heart
disease. Other research suggests that positive
emotions can make people more resilient and
resourceful.
DIY Deodorant
for Everyone
Conventional deodorant antiperspirants
work great, if you don’t mind infusing your
armpits with several of the ingredients used
in most deodorants and antiperspirants that
are not so good for you. Like these:
Aluminum – This is the
primary ingredient in most stuff you’ll buy
at the store. It’s a metal which has been
linked to breast cancer in women and
increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. No
thanks.
Parabens – This synthetic
preservative is found in so many personal
care products. The largest concern is that
these chemicals will disrupt our
delicate hormonal balance. Paraben
exposure has also been linked to birth
defects and organ toxicity.
Propylene glycol – Common
name: antifreeze. This is a petroleum based
material. In large quantities, studies have
shown that this stuff can cause damage to
the central nervous system, liver, and
heart.
Phthalates – Another
class of chemicals that have been linked to
a variety of health issues including birth
defects.
Triclsoan – This chemical
is actually classified as a pesticide by the
FDA and a probable carcinogen by the
Environmental Protection Agency.
Keep in mind that the recipe
below is NOT an antiperspirant. But that’s a
good thing. You need to sweat.
It’s one of the ways your body naturally
detoxes. Besides, antiperspirant just clogs your
pores to keep the sweat from coming out… but
your body will keep trying to detox. That’s why
antiperspirant leaves those “pit stain” on your
favorite shirt. It’s like your armpit threw up
the chemical junk.
Adding Essential oils
successfully assist perspiration and body odor
it's also a one step application for immunity
boosting, hormone balancing and thyroid
assisting benefits depending on your blend!
You make want to detox your arm
pits to begin with. I did and love the results!
Simply mix together:
1 Tablespoon of Bentonite clay
1 Tablespoon of vinegar
then add enough water to make a paste. Apply to
arm pits for 5 - 20 minutes. wash off. It's that
simple.
Mix coconut oil and shea butter, combined
in a quart size glass mason jar and place
this in a small saucepan of water until
melted. This will save your bowl and you can
just designate this jar for these
type of projects and not even need to wash
it out…
Remove from heat and add baking soda and
arrowroot (If you don’t have arrowroot, use
more baking soda)
Mix well
Add essential oils and pour into a glass
container for storage. It does not need to
be stored in the fridge.
If you prefer, you can let it cool
completely and put into an old deodorant
stick for easier use, though it may melt in
the summer!
2 Tbs. baking soda (reduce to 1 Tbs if still to
harsh for your skin).
1. Melt coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter
in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir
continuously until melted.
2. Once completely melted remove off heat and
whisk in arrowroot powder and baking soda.
Then add essential oils. Mix thoroughly, but
quickly as mixture will start to thicken.
3. Pour into two empty deodorant containers
and let your homemade deodorant sit until
completely set (give it a couple hours for
good measure). Place lid on and use as you
would any other deodorant.
ONE RECIPE FILLS APPROXIMATELY
{16} ONE OUNCE CONTAINERS
Measure and add coconut oil and
olive oil to a one quart Mason Jar, set the
jar in two or three inches of hot water and
set your burner to medium/low.
Add beeswax, melt all three
ingredients together slowly, stirring
occasionally.
Add shea butter, melt slowly while
stirring occasionally.
Add arrowroot powder, stir to
blend.
Add rosehip seed oil and vitamin e
oil at the very end, stir to blend.
Pour into glass or plastic jars. 4
oz jars are a handy size in my experience.
Let cool to harden, store in
refrigerator.
WHEN YOU'RE READY FOR REFILLS:
Scoop out desired amount of
refrigerated deodorant base and slowly melt
it down in a mason jar water bath, add
essential oils, stir and pour into desired
deodorant container, let cool.

Deodorant!
Magnesium
is necessary for hundreds of functions
within the body
Every single cell in the human
body demands adequate Magnesium to
function, or it will perish. Strong bones and
teeth, balanced hormones, a healthy nervous and
cardiovascular system, well functioning
detoxification pathways and much more depend
upon cellular magnesium sufficiency. Soft tissue
containing the highest concentrations of
magnesium in the body include the brain and the
heart—two organs that produce a large amount of
electrical activity, and which can be especially
vulnerable to magnesium insufficiency.
Proper magnesium ratios are
important for the body to correctly use calcium
in the cells. Even a small deficiency can lead
to a dangerous calcium imbalance and lead to
problems like calcification and cell death. This
manifests itself with symptoms like heart
trouble, migraine headaches, muscle cramps and
premenstrual cramping.
Water was once a good
source of magnesium, but now:
Fluoride in drinking water binds with magnesium,
creating a nearly insoluble mineral compound
that ends up deposited in the bones, where its
brittleness increases the risk of fractures.
Water, in fact, could be an excellent source of
magnesium—if it comes from deep wells that have
magnesium at their source, or from mineral-rich
glacial runoff. Urban sources of drinking water
are usually from surface water, such as rivers
and streams, which are low in magnesium. Even
many bottled mineral waters are quite low in
magnesium, or have a very high concentration of
calcium, or both.
These additional dietary factors can
also deplete magnesium:
Consumption of caffeine
Consumption of sugar (It takes 28
molecules of magnesium to metabolize a
single glucose molecule!
Consumption of processed food
Consumption of alcohol
Consumption of produce from depleted soil
Consumption of foods high in phytic acid
Additionally, drugs like birth control pills,
hypertension medicine, diuretics, insulin, and
certain antibiotics (among others) deplete
magnesium levels. Sweating often from exercise
or other causes can also deplete magnesium.
Magnesium is necessary for hundreds
of functions within the body, but is
especially important for:
Gives rigidity AND flexibility to your
bones (more important than Calcium in many
cases)
Increases bioavailability of calcium
Regulates and normalizes blood pressure
Prevents and reverses kidney stone
formation
Promotes restful sleep
Helps prevent congestive heart failure
Eases muscle cramps and spasms
Lowers serum cholesterol levels and
triglycerides
Decreases insulin resistance
Can prevent atherosclerosis and stroke
End cluster and migraine headaches
Enhances circulation
Relieves fibromyalgia and chronic pain
Treats asthma and emphysema
Helps make proteins
Encourages proper elimination
Prevents osteoporosis
Proper Vitamin D absorption
protection from radiation
To aid weight loss
Lessen or remove ADD or ADHD in children
in proper digestion of carbohydrates
emerging evidence is showing a
preventative role in many cancers
Low magnesium levels are often diagnosed
by symptoms alone, and the following
symptoms can point to low magnesium levels:
Inability to sleep or insomnia
Irritability
Sensitivity to noise
Mental disturbances
Anxiety, depression or restlessness
Muscle soreness or spasms
Infertility or PMS
High levels of stress
Headaches
Heart “flutters” or palpitations
Fatigue or unusual tiredness
Coldness in extremities
Fuzzy brain or difficulty concentrating
Allergies and sensitivities
Lack of appetite
Back pain
Body odor
Bad short term memory
Poor coordination
Insulin resistance
Carbohydrate cravings
Constipation
Frequent cavities or poor dental health
Gut disorders
Kidney stones
Thyroid problems
If you have more than one of the above
symptoms and especially if you have more
than five, it is highly likely that you
could benefit from magnesium supplementation.
How to get more
Magnesium
Unfortunately, magnesium is often not well
absorbed by the digestive track, and is even
more difficult to absorb if you are
deficient or are low in vitamin D, have poor
gut bacteria or suffer from a number of other
conditions.
On top of that, most foods are depleted of their
natural magnesium levels and the water supply is
lacking also.
There are several ways to supplement, and a
mixture of more than one type of magnesium
supplementation seems to be most effective. It
is important to start slow and work up, as high
doses will not be completely absorbed at first
and most will be wasted.
Leafy green vegetables, sea vegetables, kelp,
and especially nettle are good dietary
sources of magnesium, though if you have a
deficiency, it will be difficult to raise your
levels enough through diet alone.
The best way to supplement with magnesium, in
my opinion, is by using it on the skin. This
is not only the safest way, since the body
will only use what is needed, but the most
effective.
Unlike internal doses of magnesium, topical
magnesium does not have to pass through the
digestive system and kidneys and can more
quickly enter the blood and tissues of the
body.
Make your own Magnesium
Oil Spray
Ingredients
½ cup Magnesium Chloride Flakes
½ cup distilled water
A glass bowl or glass measuring cup
A glass spray bottle (plastic will work
too)
Instructions
Boil the distilled water. It is important
to use distilled to extend the shelf life of
the mixture. Put the Magnesium Chloride
Flakes in the glass bowl or measuring cup
and the pour the boiling water over it.
Stir well until completely dissolved. Let
cool completely and store in the spray
bottle. Can be stored at room temperature
for at least six months. I keep in my
bathroom to use daily.
Sacral
Chakra
"Your Own Place"
Each of the Seven Chakras are
governed by spiritual laws, principles of
consciousness that we can use to cultivate
greater harmony, happiness, and wellbeing in our
lives and in the world.
The most common location for the
sacral chakra is about three inches below the
navel, at the center of your lower belly. In the
back, it’s located at the level of the lumbar
vertebrae.
The sacral chakra is the seat of emotion.
Associated with the color orange, the sacral
chakra (taken from the Sanskrit word
svadhisthana, meaning “dwelling
place of the self”) governs our ability to
initiate, nurture and maintain healthy
interpersonal relationships. Located in the
lower abdomen, it is the hub of our creativity
and guides us see beyond the mundane to
embrace our dreams and desires. A balanced
sacral chakra offers balance, grounding, and
strength.
If your sacral chakra is out of balance it
can initiate a range of physical symptoms,
including:
premenstrual syndrome
anemia
hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
lower back pain
joint problems
spleen and kidney issues
low energy
On a non-physical level, a imbalance of the
sacral chakra can contribute to:
depression
poor boundaries
overly sensitive, indulgent or aggressive
fear and/or anxiety
detachment
co-dependency
manipulation
panic attacks
Guilt - dysfunctional second chakra can often
become money hungry, using wealth and the
power it has over people to dispassionately
control and dominate them. - Physical
complaints such as prostate problems, PMS, fibroids, menstrual
problems and lack of sexual drive can occur
when the second chakra is imbalanced. Lower
backache, sacroiliac problems, sciatica, and
bowel dysfunction can also be attributed to a
challenged sacral chakra.
If you feel your second chakra is in need of
opening and healing, there are a number of
things you can do to balance and strengthen
it.
One way of opening the sacral
chakra is to dance. Moving
your body helps heal the second chakra by
getting your body’s energy flowing, which
activates the chakra and removes blockages.
Learning to let go can be
difficult, but letting go of unhealthy emotions,
people, and memories—is so important. When we
learn to let go of the baggage that we don’t
need to carry, we create space and energy for
new and better opportunities. Consider
journaling or simply talking with a close friend
about all that’s bothering you. It’s amazing how
much better you feel when you vocalize and let
go of repressed emotions and experiences.
While Inhaling Orange
Reproductive Sacral Blend :
Imagine a bright, healing orange glow filling up
your entire lower abdomen—keeping in mind that
we’re three dimensional. Feel free to send your
breath—and the color orange—to any particular
area of disease or tension.
Imagine yourself in moonlight and near open
water. Allow yourself
to feel a
lovely sense of flow in your second chakra. Surround
yourself with beauty--art, flowers, music,
color--whatever gives you that elevated
feeling that beauty confers; give yourself a
moment to savor it every time you encounter
it.
We can cascade positive energy in this area, flushing away
the negative and allowing passion and compassion
to be generated. Essential oils
can encourage us to emit the higher frequencies
of emotions and by opening to the positive
realms of emotions, like love, joy, harmony,
trust, we can bring a more fulfilling vortex of
energy to the sacral chakra and radiate these
positive aspects out to others. Essential Oils:
Bay,
Bergamot,
Clary
Sage, Jasmine,
Orange,
Neroli,
Patchouli,
Rosemary,
Sandalwood.
