Essential Oils
are naturally antiviral, anti-fungal, and
antibacterial,
they naturally energize, deodorize, clean
and refresh. |
To enjoy, I mean really enjoy and get the most from your life, you need to have good health and a strong belief in yourself.

Vitamin C
is used to neutralize chlorine. |
Two forms of vitamin C,
ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate, will
neutralize chlorine. Neither is considered a
hazardous chemical |
The
good news is that adding a bit of vitamin C
to your bathwater can help neutralize at
least part of the chlorine |
Chlorine-Blasting DIY Bath Bombs
Ingredients
Now you LIGHTLY mist with a spray
bottle filled with water, don't let it fizz or
your batch is ruined. If it starts to fizz,
just quickly mix in with the rest. Now keep
mixing, spray, mix until you can squeeze the
mixture and a ball forms.
I used a plastic Tablespoon scoop, others have
used a plastic egg from Easter, as a mold.
I packed the scoop tightly and gently tapped
it out onto a waxed paper cookie sheet to dry
over night.

Synthetic Chemicals
Do you really want to use them on your skin?
An ingredient
that effectively scours and cleans a garage
floor may not be the best choice for a facial
cleanser.
|
When it comes to beauty products, the effects
of the ingredients they contain can be more
than just skin deep. The cosmetics industry
uses thousands of synthetic chemicals in its
products, in everything from lipstick and
lotion to shampoo and shaving cream.
Many of these substances are also used in
industrial manufacturing processes to clean
industrial equipment, stabilize pesticides and
grease gears. And we can all agree that an
ingredient that effectively scours a garage
floor may not be the best choice for a facial
cleanser.

Petroleum
products harm your skin and your body,
because they....
Coat the skin like
plastic wrap, disrupting the delicate acid
mantle and the good bacteria that protect our
skin from germs. Hinder the skin’s exposure to
oxygen and other nutrients needed for proper
detoxification and repair. Are not water
soluble so they attach to your cells and build
up in your body. They are very difficult for
your body to eliminate.
In addition, the
1,4-dioxane (which is not listed on ingredient
labels), is a petroleum-derived chemical that
is often found in sudsing items like body
wash, bubble bath, and shampoos. This chemical
has been listed as a possible carcinogen by
the International Agency for Research on
Cancer (IARC). Meanwhile, the National
Toxicology Program (NTP) has identified
1,4-dioxane as a “reasonably anticipated
carcinogen”. These are all very good reasons
to make more of your health and beauty
products at home, where you control the
quality, and the safety, of the ingredients.

So
here are some good alternatives and why...
|
Coconut
Oil - Virgin coconut oil improved skin
barrier function. Coconut oil contains
antibacterial and antifungal properties, making
it the perfect ingredient to use to prevent
toenail infections and foot fungus. |
Shea butter - It has natural
antibacterial properties and is great for
preventing stretch marks, for wound healing, and
as an anti-aging treatment for skin. It
naturally has an SPF of about 5 and can be used
as a daily sunscreen. I use shea butter in my
lotion, lotion bars, deodorant, face cream, baby
lotion, diaper cream and many other recipes! |
Cocoa butter is another “butter”
and a great addition to natural beauty recipes.
It imparts a delicate chocolate scent, and I
love it mixed with mint or citrus in lotion
bars, lotion or face cream. It can be used
interchangeably with Shea Butter, though I find
that my favorite recipes include Shea butter,
Cocoa Butter, and Coconut Oil. |
Beeswax is used to improve the
condition and texture of the skin. It also has a
number of benefits in treating skin problems
like acne, eczema, and dry skin. Beeswax helps
in locking skin moisture, fostering the skin
cells and protecting the skin from environmental
damages. It contains powerful anti-bacterial,
anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties
that are all beneficial to the skin. |
Recipes like smoother lotions,
baby oil, salves, and after-shave balms often
need to be thinner than coconut oil and the
butters will allow. In these cases, I use a
liquid carrier oil. Most often, I
use olive
oil, almond
oil, or rose
hip seed oil (my favorite). Rose hip seed
oil has the most gentle scent and almond
oil is also relatively unscented. Olive
oil is typically the least expensive if you
don’t mind the olive scent in your recipes or if
you plan to cover it up with essential oils. |
I keep Arrowroot on hand for
thickening sauces when cooking and it also gets
added to a lot of natural recipes like
deodorant, baby powder, diaper cream, dry
shampoo, etc. It works much like cornstarch but
isn’t GMO like many corn products. I also use it
in my homemade makeup recipes. |
Myrrh
was (and still is) used in anointing oils and
since it is naturally anti-septic, anti-fungal
and anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant,
anti-microbial and anti-viral. It was used on
wounds to ward off infection and was often
used on the umbilical cord to keep it clean
while it was healing. Myrrh was also said to
help sooth and calm and could have been used on
babies to calm them. |
Frankincense
was used in perfumes and was also helpful for
improving hormone balance (like after
pregnancy), and soothing skin wounds and stretch
marks. Some sources say that it was used in
traditional cultures to calm mom and baby after
birth. In traditional cultures, it was used on
babies (in small amounts) to calm, sooth and
relax. It was also said to help alleviate
digestive problems. |
Cleansing serum for all
skin types
|
Part of why I love this blend for
a cleanser is because of its holistic benefits.
Ylang
Ylang is an aphrodisiac. It's also
extremely calming and soothing.
Both Ylang
Ylang and coconut
oil are usually good for sensitive skin.
2 oz of Coconut
oil
Add 5 drops
of Ylang
Ylang and stir (I often use a
chopstick of the coconut is cooler and hard)
Apply to skin and wipe off with a
gentle sponge.
I
usually don't worry about getting rid of all
it (I use it as a sort of night-time
moisturizer too) but if you want, you can use
a floral water like lavender or witch hazel to
make sure you get it all off.
|
Alternatives: For problem
skin like eczema, combine it with Roman
Chamomile essential oil as well as crushed
chamomile.
This cleansing serum is good for dry, sensitive,
and irritated skin. |
Anti
Wrinkle Cream
|
I recommend Argan
Oil for this blend because of its STRONG
anti wrinkle abilities. Coconut oil has some
anti-aging properties as well, but it is not as
powerful.
Add 4 oz Coconut
Oil to a jar
Add 1 oz Argan
Oil to the same jar and stir
Add 8 - drops of Frankincense
Essential oil
Apply to skin and wipe off makeup with a sponge
I usually don't worry about getting rid of all
it (I use it as a sort of night-time moisturizer
too) but if you want, you can use a floral water
like lavender or witch hazel to make sure you
get it all off.

Effectiveness of Essential Oils
|
Glandular
Essential oils probably exert
their most powerful and direct pharmacological
effects systemically via the blood supply to
the brain. They also have an indirect effect
via the olfactory nerve pathways into the
brain. Essential oil fragrances are absorbed
through blood circulation and nerve pathways
from the sinuses into the central glands of
the brain, which control emotional,
neurological, and immunological functions.
Skin
Essential oils are absorbed in
minute quantities through the skin, depending
on the oil, dilution, and application (carrier
oil, compress, etc). Many of the indications
for specific oils include various skin
conditions.
Respiratory
Essential oils are inhaled
during treatment, which have a direct effect
on the sinuses, throat, and lungs. Many
essential oils are specific medicines for
respiratory conditions.
Circulation
Many essential oils have beneficial effects on
circulatory problems, both through dermal and
respiratory absorption. These oils enhance the
circulation stimulating effects of massage |
Oregano
Essential Oil
No surprise here.
|
Oregano
essential oil has been found to protect
corn crops from fungal infections.
Researchers discovered that the essential oil
was effective in keeping fungus at bay, offering
a natural, safer alternative to synthetic
chemicals that ultimately lead to the creation
of treatment-resistant pathogens. Furthermore,
it was discovered that oregano essential oil
only needs to be used in small amounts to
prevent corn crops from developing fungal
infections, and because the oils don't stay in
the water or soil for extended periods of time,
the toxicity to animals is low.
The main compound in oregano
essential oil, thymol, was found to be
among one of the best oils to have antifungal
activity. |
It may come as no surprise that
essential oregano oil provides these benefits.
After all, its been heralded by many for use in
human health situations, often for its
antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial and
antiparasitic abilities. As an antifungal, it
can help protect the body from internal and
external infections; many enjoy using the oil to
treat skin infections.
Its antibacterial benefits include the ability
to maintain healthy gut flora and ward off
urinary tract and colon infections. And the List
goes on. . .

Helps
Sore Ears feel
better |
In our recent Newsletter we
shared about a salt sock and how it
helps sore ears feel better. Add
drops of either lemon & basil,
or
lavender & tea
tree. The salt sock will feel so
good on a sore ear and the heat can
help draw out the infection. Just
drop the oils onto a sock filled with Rock and
Sea Salts. Heat it for 30 seconds in the
microwave and press your ear against it. |
