Slough Off
Summer with these
Fall Body Scrubs
|
Sugar & Spice Body Scrub
|
Add above ingredients to a bowl and mix well.
Store in a covered jar to use all over your
body for extra exfoliation, concentrating on
rough patches like knees and elbows. Rinse and
towel dry.
|
Citrus
Salt Body Scrub
|
This
powerful mineral will help relax the muscles
and skin, while increasing blood
circulation. Contrary to what many people
think, salt is not drying. Sea salt is great
for healing skin tissue and replenishing
hydration, effectively balancing moisture
and releasing water retention. |
Combine the sea salt and oil, mix well in a bowl
until the salt is saturated with oil. Then add
the drops of essential oil and mix. Store in a
covered jar and use as needed all over your
body. Rinse and towel dry. |
Pumpkin & Spice
|
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon jojoba,
almond
or olive
oil
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder (optional)
Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix
well. This scrub needs to be used at the time of
mixing, so don’t store to use later. This scrub
is best applied to dry skin. I prefer the
following order for application: 10-20 warm
water bath soak, towel dry, scrub, and then
shower to rinse off. |
Natural Disinfectant Spray
Make it Yourself
|
From flu outbreaks to deadly bacterial
infections, health scares seem to dominate the
news these days. In response, you may go
searching for products that claim to eradicate
bacteria, viruses and other germs.
However, not all of these disinfectants are
effective against every type of bacteria or bug.
And although we may think these products are
keeping you healthy, the truth is that some of
them may actually be harmful to both your health
and the environment.
There is a common misconception that
antibacterial soap, in particular, is effective
in eradicating all germs. Although antibacterial
soap may kill some bacteria, it is no more
effective in doing so than regular soap, and
does nothing to fight viruses like colds or the
flu.
In fact, many health experts advise against
using antibacterial products, as most contain
a potentially harmful ingredient called
triclosan, which some researchers say is an
endocrine disrupter. Moreover, overuse of
these products has led to antibiotic
resistance and the rise of so-called
superbugs.

Cold and Flu Season
|
The rise of resistant strains of
bacteria, fungi and viruses has become a
widespread problem because of overused
antibiotics. Time and time again, medical
science keeps bumping into the truth that pure
essential oils have benefits that drugs can’t
duplicate. |
Got a
headache? Use peppermint
essential oil. Simply apply a drop or two to
your temples, forehead and the back of your
neck. You may want to dilute the oil first in
a carrier oil, like coconut or almond oil,
because it can be very strong around your
eyes.
Speaking of eyes, watch out for those. Ouch!
If you do get essential oils in your eyes or
other mucous membranes, dilute with a carrier
oil, not water.
Sore
Muscles? Peppermint
is great for relaxing sore muscles and can
help soothe inflammation. Use 3 drops of peppermint
essential oil in 1 tablespoon of coconut
oil and apply as needed.
Having a
hard time breathing?
Drop 4-6 drops of peppermint
essential oil in a cup of very hot
water, carefully inhale, your sinus' will
thank you!
Make
your own Vapor Rub
Put beeswax in a double boiler and heat until
melted. Add coconut oil and olive oil.
Mix until coconut oil is liquified.
Remove from heat. Add essential oils and mix
well. Now pour into jars right away. Let
vapor rub sit overnight to let the essential
oils infuse. Place a lid on rub and use
as needed. Rub
on chest, back and the bottoms of feet
to relieve congestion and coughing.

Try massaging Grapefruit
Essential Oil on your lymph nodes
when you notice you’re getting sick. |
Grapefruit
Essential Oil is used with great
success to combat muscle fatigue and stiffness
while stimulating the lymphatic system and
thereby clearing the body of toxins.
Add a few drops of grapefruit
essential oil to the water in a cool air
humidifier – not only can this boost your immune
system, but it will also kill germs in the air.

. . An ounce of prevention is worth a
pound of cure |
In short, giving the body what it
needs and keeping a constant supply of nutrients
will help ensure that the body can resist any
pathogen it encounters. Remember 1 teaspoon of
sugar reduces your immune system by 1/2.
|
Oregano |
I always start with putting oregano
in a carrier oil, on the bottom of my feet.
|
Boil 1-2 cups of water in a large
pot. Remove from heat, add 5 drops each of thyme
essential oil, rosemary
essential oil, and oregano
essential oil. Put face directly over pot
with towel covering your head to hold in the
heat. Breathe in the steam as long as you can,
aim for 15 minutes. This will help loosen
congestion and kill viruses and bacteria in the
lungs, bronchials or sinuses. Alternately, you
can use 1/2 cup vinegar in the steam. It won’t
smell great, but it will help fight the illness. |
Sinus
Pressure? Try this. . .
|
Humming can relieve Sinus
Pressure. Did you read that right? Humming?
Yep, humming purportedly helps ease sinus
congestion. Although you’ll have to do it for at
least one hour straight to make any difference.
Since humming produces an increase of airflow in
your nasal passages, as well as the level of
nitric oxide, the combination of the two helps
reduce your risk of a sinus infection. Whenever
you feel your allergies flaring up or a common
cold coming on, start humming a pleasant tune to
keep a sinus infection at bay.

Honey as Medicine
|
Did you know you can use honey as
medicine? If I had to choose only one
medicine I could have in stock, I think it would
be honey. These days, specialty wound-care
centers might agree.
Honey has become a staple for those hard-to-heal
wounds, such as diabetic leg ulcers, burns, even
wounds with gangrene. It kills bacteria
resistant to other antibiotics and actually
heals tissue, nursing the skin back to health.
Not only that, but it can decrease the pain.
|
How Honey Prevents Wound Infections
- It seals the wound from
outside contaminants.
- It’s a mild acid. Most
bacteria can’t grow well in that.
- It has a low water content.
Bacteria don’t like that either.
|
How Honey Kills Bacteria
- It dries them up. The
high sugar content dehydrates bacteria.
- It produces hydrogen peroxide.
When diluted with, say, body fluids, enzymes
in the honey create a small amount of
hydrogen peroxide. Enough to kill bacteria.
- Its enzymes create antibacterial
chemicals we’re just beginning to isolate.
Some types of honey produce more of these
chemicals than others. Some don’t produce
much at all.
|
How Honey Heals
Honey has been shown to speed up the growth
of various body tissues. It helps form new
blood vessels, collagen, and the epithelial
cells that cover the underlying tissue. The
way it does this is:
- It seals in the good tissue fluid
containing enzymes and proteins that promote
healing.
- It provides nutrition to
the tissue.
- It decreases inflammation
and swelling in a yet unknown way.
Some studies have suggested honey even
decreases scarring.

Honey for a Hair
Mask
|
I like to make a coconut and
honey paste for the health of my hair. This is
what I call my little miracle for my damaged
hair.
1 Tablespoon of coconut oil
1 Tablespoon of honey
8 drops of rosemary
essential oil
3 drops of peppermint
essential oil
I mix it all up then smoosh it on my hair, the rosemary and
peppermint
stimulate the hair follicle while the coconut
and honey nourish the hair shaft. I leave it on
at least 1/2 an hour. Cover with plastic cap.
Sometimes I may use a hair dryer for a little
heat, or not. Then shampoo as usual. My hair has
never felt better.
