Cold and Flu Season, again
This is the season of colds and flu, and the holiday candy doesn't help.
Try as I might I can't always keep my kids "Sugar Free." Sugar reduces the immune system 50%.  So what's a mom to do? Is it me or does anyone else feel like the colds and flus, seem to hit harder, and are more resistant to treatment?  I am trying however to boost my children's immune system. Below are some of the things I have implemented.
I rub the bottom of the feet with  a carrier oil like, olive oil, with a few drops of oregano essential oil added or the blend X-Plague.
And the best thing for the results that I've seen is
Lypo-Spheric™ Vitamin C contains 1,000 mg of vitamin C and 1,000 mg of "essential" phospholipids. It's the most bio-available, easy-to-swallow vitamin C supplement each kid I have given it to has improved dramatically.
Licorice tea -
Licorice root is a natural remedy that has expectorant qualities and can be effective in relieving a cough as well.

Inhalations of essential oil of Marjoram can help relieve respiratory ailments and asthma, as well as coughs and sinusitis.

• Treat the cough! When a cough first develops, treat the cough.
• Wild cherry bark tea is excellent. Here are other herbs useful for coughs; select from those you have on hand or can most easily obtain. They can be mixed: black cohosh, flaxseed, rosemary, comfrey, horehound, hyssop, myrrh, white pine, bloodroot, red sage, blue violet, ginseng, coltsfoot. Prepare a tea and give a teaspoonful every hour until the cough is better.

Fresh Garlic - Chopped and swallowed with water (never on an empty stomach) or make a garlic sandwich or put on salad or anything else - The important thing is to get some down.  We usually do this at night or you can take parsley or chlorophyll to kill the odor.  Garlic pills can be used but they aren't as effective. If taken when exposed it works better than when you are in the middle of the problem and full of germs or viruses or whatever is causing the problem.
Fats and Your Health
For the past century, Americans have been taught that the fats humans have healthily consumed for 30,000 years are evil and horribly unhealthy. Yet, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes have dramatically increased alongside our use of margarine, shortening, and corn oil, introduced just one hundred years ago.
The first and most important function of food is to build and repair the tissues of which the body is compose. Food is about cell health. Nutritious real food helps to replenish and heal tissue. Real food can guard against disease. Yes, our bodies also need fuel but more than just energy they need right kind of fuel.

High-quality fats and oils are one of the most essential foods to consume every day. They are needed for your brain and nervous system, for energy production and for making most of the body’s vital hormones. Children, in particular, absolutely require plenty of fats and oils, particularly EPA and DHA. These are two omega-3 essential fatty acids needed for development of the nervous system. Quality fats and oils are also essential for transporting all vitamins, minerals and hormones in and out of every one of the body cells. Fat also serves as the first and strongest line of defense in our immune system.

Adding saturated fat to the diet has been shown in medical research to encourage the liver cells to dump their fat content. Clearing fat from the liver is the critical first step to calling a halt to middle-body fat storage. Additionally, saturated fat has been shown to protect the liver from the toxic insults of alcohol and medications, including acetaminophen and other drugs commonly used for pain and arthritis, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, and even to reverse the damage once it has occurred.
Fats for Lungs
For proper function, the airspaces of the lungs have to be coated with a thin layer of what’s called lung surfactant. The fat content of lung surfactant is 100 percent saturated fatty acids. Replacement of these critical fats by other types of fat makes faulty surfactant and potentially causes breathing difficulties. Absence of the correct amount and composition of this material leads to collapse of the airspaces and respiratory distress.
Fats for Proper Brain Function
You will likely be astounded to learn that your brain is mainly made of fat and cholesterol. Though many people are now familiar with the importance of the highly unsaturated essential fatty acids found in cold-water fish (EPA and DHA) for normal brain and nerve function, the lion’s share of the fatty acids in the brain are actually saturated. A diet that skimps on healthy saturated fats robs your brain of the raw materials it needs to function optimally.

Fats assist in the development and function of the brain and nervous system, and they help regulate proper thyroid and adrenal activity. They play a role in thinning your blood, which can prevent blood clots that lead to heart attacks and stroke. They also possess natural anti-inflammatory qualities that can relieve symptoms of both arthritis and other autoimmune system diseases.
Certain saturated fats, particularly those found in butter, tallow, coconut oil, and palm oil, function directly as signaling messengers that influence the metabolism, including such critical jobs as the appropriate release of insulin.
Fats and Immune Health
Saturated fats found in butter and coconut oil (myristic acid and lauric acid) play key roles in immune health. Loss of sufficient saturated fatty acids in the white blood cells hampers their ability to recognize and destroy foreign invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Human breast milk is quite rich in myristic and lauric acid, which have potent germ-killing ability. But the importance of the fats lives on beyond infancy; we need dietary replenishment of them throughout adulthood, middle age, and into seniority to keep the immune system vigilant against the development of cancerous cells as well as infectious invaders.
Cholesterol and saturated fat is what makes up our cell membranes
When our cells are damaged, or our arteries are damaged, it is cholesterol that comes to the rescue and creates healing. High serum cholesterol levels often indicate that the body needs cholesterol to protect itself and heal it self. The exception here is that there are some cases where a short term avoidance of fat, as a cleansing for the body’s digestive mechanisms can be very beneficial, but not as a long term habit.
Fats and Cellular Development
Essential fatty acids have a ton of benefits on your body and its cells. They help with cellular development and the formation of healthy cell membranes, and they have actually been shown to block tumor formation in animals, as well as block the growth of human breast cancer cells.

What Happens if I Don't Obtain Enough Essential Fatty Acids?

Not getting enough fatty acids has the most astounding effects. Low levels have been linked to:
  • mood swings
  • memory loss
  • dementia
  • vision problems
  • hair and skin problems
Additionally, both Alzheimer’s patients and children diagnosed with ADHD have been shown to have lower than average levels of these essential fatty acids.
Fat is essential to good health. Saturated fats and cholesterol are essential for repairing the body.

The first and most important function of food is to build and repair the tissues of which the body is compose. Food is about cell health. Nutritious real food helps to replenish and heal tissue. Real food can guard against disease. Yes, our bodies also need fuel but more than just energy they need right kind of fuel.

The real problem is fake or artificial fats. The kind of fats that get altered for various reasons—like hydrogenated trans fat that were created to prolong shelf life of other fake and processed foods.

Our “new-fangled” fats like all hydrogenated oils, soy, corn and safflower oils, cottonseed oil, and canola oil are very problematic. These fats are heated to very high temperatures in processing (or when frying or cooking) and have been shown to cause cancer, heart disease, immune system dysfunction, sterility, learning disabilities, growth problems and osteoporosis. These fake fats are definitely doing their part in our obesity and disease epidemic.

The human body is about 97% saturated and monounsaturated fat, with only 3 % Polyunsaturated fats. Half of that three percent is Omega-3 fats, and that balance needs to be there. Vegetable oils contain very high levels of polyunsaturated fats, and these oils have replaced many of the saturated fats in our diets since the 1950s.

The body needs fats for rebuilding cells and hormone production, but it has to use the building blocks we give it. When we give it a high concentration of polyunsaturated fats instead of the ratios it needs, it has no choice but to incorporate these fats into our cells during cell repair and creation.

The problem is that polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable and oxidize easily in the body (if they haven’t already oxidized during processing or by light exposure while sitting on the grocery store shelf). These oxidized fats cause inflammation and mutation in cells.

In arterial cells, these mutations cause inflammation that can clog arteries. When these fats are incorporated into skin cells, their mutation causes skin cancer. (This is why people often get the most dangerous forms of skin cancer in places where they are never exposed to the sun, but that is a topic for another day!)

When these oils are incorporated into cells in reproductive tissue, some evidence suggests that this can spur problems like endometriosis and PCOS. In short, the body is made up of saturated and monounsaturated fats, and it needs these for optimal health.”

Bottom line: Don’t eat fats like Vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, soybean oil, margarine, shortening or other chemically altered fats. Choose fats like coconut oil, real butter, olive oil (don’t heat!) and animal fats (tallow from cow of sheep fat) from healthy sources instead and eat lots of high Omega-3 fish.

Fluoride a Deadly Poison

Fluoride is a deadly poison. Just a small amount, approximately ½ a teaspoon will kill someone who weighs a hundred pounds. Regularly absorbing this poison through toothpaste, mouth rinse, dental visits, or tap water puts a tremendous strain on the liver. The slow poisoning of fluoride can contribute to the break down of the liver and other organs and glands. Dr. Dean Burk was a highly respected chemist who worked for the National Cancer institute. He testified before congress that he believed fluoridation to have caused about 1/10 th of all cancer deaths. That’s 61,000 people per year.

An Apple A Day To Keep The Dr. Away

Chances are, you've only tasted a few of the many varieties of apples because supermarkets offer a small selection that typically includes Gala, Cortland, Granny Smith, McIntosh, and the most popular -- Red Delicious. Regardless of the type, apples are a perfect addition to your weight-loss plan for a number of reasons.

Apples are low in calories and fat, low in sodium, and contain vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. These can all help you to lose weight in different ways. The fiber helps you feel full longer because it expands in your stomach so it takes less food to satisfy your hunger. Apples are a low-sodium food that can be a good addition to a healthy diet. Keeping your sodium low will help prevent excess water weight, or retention. And, the vitamins benefit you by increasing health and vitality. Of course, being active helps burn extra calories to speed up weight loss.

It turns out the simple apple is a jewel when it comes to healthy eating. There are even enzymes found in apples that might help your body digest food more efficiently.

Health Benefits

Even though it's not bursting with nutrients like some of the other fruits, an apple a day may do more than keep the doctor away. For starters, apples are a good source of vitamin C, an antioxidant, and research has shown that antioxidants help prevent heart disease and the formation of some cancers. They have heart-healthy effects, too -- apples are loaded with pectin, which may help keep blood cholesterol levels in check. When it dissolves in water, soluble fiber creates a gummy, gel-like substance that binds bile acids and draws cholesterol out of the bloodstream. Soluble fiber's stickiness also slows the absorption of carbohydrates, keeping blood sugar levels on an even keel. And apples may contribute to a healthy smile and fresh breath by stimulating your gums and promoting saliva production.

Habenero and Horseradish are Stimulants
Did you know that the habenero and horseradish are stimulants that quicken and excite the body? They energize the body (helping it to marshal its defenses against invading viruses). In addition, they help to carry blood to all parts of the body. They are also diaphoretics and thus help raise the temperature of the body, which increases the activity of the body's immune system.

Horseradish, in particular, contains volatile oils that are similar to those found in mustard. In test tubes, the volatile oils in horseradish have shown antibiotic properties, which may account for its effectiveness in treating throat and upper respiratory tract infections.

At levels attainable in human urine after taking the volatile oil of horseradish, the oil has been shown to kill bacteria that can cause urinary tract infections, and one early trial found that horseradish extract may be a useful treatment for people with urinary tract infections.
Essential Oils are Packed Full of Nutrients and Proteins
Essential oils are packed full of nutrients and proteins which maintain the mattress-like bounciness of collagen; they also stimulate blood flow which encourages the regeneration of new skin cells and some essential oils, such as fennel, have hormonal-like properties which encourages the firming of skin.

Below is one of my absolute favorite anti-wrinkle blends which seems to have worked wonders for anyone I’ve shared it with.

The Ultimate Anti-Wrinkle Essential Oil Blend

Neroli oil – 10 drops
Lavender oil – 10 drops
Frankincense oil – 10 drops
Rosemary oil – 2 drops
Fennel oil – 10 drops
Lemon oil – 3 drops
